Hello, I have noticed there have been several new members to the group sign on recently expressing an interest in learning to weld and I thought that it would be a perfect time to demonstrate two of the most common welding processes "Stick" (SMAW) and "Mig" (GMAW) I will give a demo on each of these and then let everyone try their hand and see how they like it. I'm not sure what day would be better for most people and I would like to schedule it on a day that is good for the most newbies. so please shoot me a message and let me know and we can schedule it on (Tuesday or Saturday) whatever day is best for the most people. I would recommend this Meetup to anyone that has never welded before and doesn't have a clue what I'm even talking about. Please click on this link if you don't know what arc welding is and it will explain the fundamentals http://www.weldingin focenter.org/basics/ ba_05.html I will be bringing a Miller Trail blazer 302 http://www.millerwel ds.com/products/engi nedriven/trailblazer _302/ And a Suitcase mig welder http://www.millerwel ds.com/products/wire _feeders/suitcase_x- treme_vs/ I will also bring a small flux mig welder from harbor freight that I got on sale for $99.00 just so you can see what you can do with the cheapest welder on the planet. I love it :) http://www.harborfre ight.com/cpi/ctaf/di splayitem.taf?Itemnu mber=94056 Please wear long pants and at least bring a long selave cotton shirt that you wont mind getting burned, it prolly wont but just in case. Bring a pair of safety glasses, gloves and earplugs if you have them. Also if you are positive you want to get into this whole welding thing I would suggest buying a welding helmet prior to this meeting because I'm not sure we will have enough to go around I have one extra someone can borrow. please leave me a message if you have any question fbbjr@hotmail.com (Freddy) -- This message was sent by Freddy (fbbjr@hotmail.com) from The Austin Metal Arts Meetup. PROJECT: TUBULAR METAL WELDING We will continue to build a new welding table. I have cut apart an old metal staircase that was donated to us. This week I will be finishing the cuts on the refurbished metal tubing so it should be ready to MIG weld on Saturday. We will be allowing new welders to MIG weld for who is interested. If you plan to weld please wear pants and leather shoes so you won't get burned. If you need to borrow other welding equipment we have some for you to use. COME JOIN US!
