Meeting Description

Who

If you are interested in the metal arts you should come check it out. We have a broad range of people that attend from people with no experience to experienced industry welders and blacksmiths.

Why

Large outdoors area and 400 square foot warehouse type work space with a clean bathroom and sink with hot water. Come to watch welding demonstrations, blacksmith demos, metal cutting, and other processes. If you have some art pieces bring them! :)

"Our warehouse complex is on the corner of Pedernales St. and 6th St. Go in through the main iron gate on 6th St. The studio is on the left down the driveway but sometimes we gather in the center of the driveway if the weather is nice. :)"

Details

COME JOIN US!
This meetup starts with some socializing with the group and new people introductions. It's common to see people showing off their metal art work so bring any if you would like to. There are demonstrations of various machines or tools usually, so if you have welding clothes and a dark hood please bring them if you plan to participate. Demonstrations consist of MIG welding, oxy/fuel welding and cutting, plasma cutting, electric bandsaw cutting, forging steel rods and objects, and other hand tool demos like grinding and piercing metal materials for art fabrication.

A FEW DETAILS ABOUT THE EAST SIDE METAL ART STUDIO:


  • 400 SQ Foot warehouse type Work Space and large outdoor area with bathroom and sink with hot water
  • Air conditioned for battling summertime heat while you work
  • Lincoln SP-200 MIG Welder - INDUSTRIAL QUALITY WELDER!
  • Miller 180 AMP Welder - yes we have two high quality welders!
  • 27 Amp Thermal Dynamics Plasma Cutter can cut through 3/8" metal
  • Oxygen / Acetylene Welding torch with Cutting attachments
  • Bench Grinder on a heavy duty workbench
  • Two Angle Grinders
  • 8 Gallon Air compressor for air tools and plasma cutter
  • 5" Heavy Duty Bench vise to hold projects, and a smaller bench vise
  • 4X5" Metal Cutting Band Saw for cutting metal pipes and stock metal
  • Dunk tank for cooling off hot metal after cutting and welding
  • Two cutting / welding tables (and we are building more)
  • We serve snacks and drink so come hungry! (Thanks to Sharon for this)

    "Because we are using old metal for our table the legs had to be ground to weld. We didnt get them ground down yet. We did some oxy-acetylene welding and some brazing outdoors on our new table. I worked on my brazing technique which Don D. Helped a lot! Our new members Adolph and Kevin came. We are glad to have them in our group! Tim worked a little bit on welding his two fish shapes that were plasma cut. I do encourage more women to come out to our meetups. "
